Picture I drew for my Spanish teacher, pencil 2007. My best work so far. Just pencil, no blending stubs.

It has a great long story behind it, and you could read it if you'd like :].

My teacher knew I was an artist, and asked me to draw a portrait of himself for him. He told me that if I drew it, he'd buy a graphics pad for me, which is worth ~500 dollars. I said it was a deal but instead of buying a graphics pad for me, just pay me $450. We shook on it and me had an agreement.

Just so we wouldn't have any trouble down the line, I showed him the size of the paper I was working with, so he wouldn't think that it was too small, and he liked what he saw...

3 months later (I had only worked on the picture twice a week), I arrive to class (I'm still a high school student in case you didn't know) with the picture in hand. I show him, he loves it, we're all happy. He has a huge grin on his face spanning from ear to ear and can't believe that he's staring at himself. I told him that whenever you give me full payment, I'll give you the picture.
We had an agreement.
A few days later, he comes to class with a check for $200, as a "down payment". I accept the check and immediately take it to the bank that day.

A few days later I ask him when he's going to give me the rest of the payment ($250) and he replies, "When I'm rich".

WHAT!?

WTF do you mean, "When you're rich??"
Things start going south here, fast.
I tell him, "No seriously Mr., when do you plan on paying me?"
Same reply.
Then I ask, "Will you have the money to me by next semester?" (it was nearing the last few weeks of school, and my school uses the track system, and we had a 2 month break coming up)
He replies with a furious "I don't know!"
Calm down buddy, I can see the fear in your eyes at this point.
I ask him again when I can be expecting my payment, and then he starts bagging on the picture...
"It's too small! That's not how I wanted it! If you put a peice of paper over it, it covers my head!"
The guy's going psycho on me at this point, and we're arguing in class.

(Aside: This guy's teaching isn't what you would expect. We go to class, sit down, copy some small exercise off the board for 30 minutes while he sits in the back of the classroom on the computer doing his personal work and looking for jobs on craigslist.com.)

So he's sitting back there, me next to him, and we're arguing, literally yelling at each other.
After I told him that I had showed him the paper and he agreed to the side, he starts talking about how it's too expensive, and he has a very sorry tone at this point.

"But it's too expensive... Four hundred and fifty dollars?? That's too much..."

Then he starts getting angry as I keep telling him that we had a verbal agreement! Helllooooooooo! Don't you remember three months back??

Then he crossed the line...

"You're not even a real artist! This is just practice! Blah blah blah!"

Oh, HELL NO! Did you hear that? He did not just say I'm not a real artist.

Me: "WTF!? We had a f**kin agreement! We f**kin shook on it!"

He loses it.

Him: "Arghhh I'm not going to pay you!" (you could really see that he was nervous) "It's too expensive, you're not a real artist, and it's too small".

At this point, I decide it's better not to argue anymore.
I go to my dean and talk to him about it, and he tells me that it's better to accept the $200 dollars he had given me, since I still hadn't given him anything in return... And besides, taking him to court would be way too much of a hassle...

At this point, I'm happy. I got 200 dollars, he got nothing. It's all good, right? Wrong.

I had almost forgotten about what a jackass this guy is. He grades students based on whether he likes them or not, not on the quality of their work. I decided that on the last day of school, I was going to give him the picture, unframed.

I give it to him, he doesn't say thank you, that was that.

I got a B on my report card...

what a jerk. It's a very nice drawing. Although i think you should be very happy with $200, that's still a lot of money and more than i would expect to get for a drawing

What a rip off! You got an A+ in my grade book! This is where the states budget is going?......to teachers that look for jobs at work and grades you on a bias concept instead of school work and performance?

They're going to H3LL on a scholarship!

At least you got $200.00 and a B. I'dve gotten 30 days in jail for making him eat his elbow.............

Awsome pencil work!
